Played it and loved it. The experience was good for a game made within 72 hours.

Any chance this is getting a Mac release?
Hi! Very sorry but that's currently not on our radar. None of us own a Mac which is unfortunately a requirement for making a Mac build. If that changes we will let you know. :)
Very short, but nice experience ^^ I wish it was longer though
I think we do too!
When you only have 48 hours to make a game, a very hard decision of quality vs quantity is there. We think we made the right choice, but would love to make more for everyone who enjoyed it. Stay tuned!
I'm making a YouTube video on this game. Expect a review tomorrow!
A light heated and fun game, that hides more than it show. wonder what type of twisted things the dev hid in this one, and what lays behind the creepy cute mask of this game
Would love to see this become a full game!
Thank you so much for the play! I love it!
I absolutely adored this game! Looking forward to more content from you guys!
I have the game downloaded, but when I try to run it, I get an alert saying it crashed and closed, what do I do?
Oh hmm, I'm not at all sure. First time that's come up.
Can you tell me as much as you can about the computer you are trying to run it on?
Certainly! And thank you for such a fast response!
I'm running it on :
Acer Aspire R5-571TG
Windows 10 (I also tried running the game under different compatibility modes for Vista, 7, and 8 to no avail)
My original error message was this big long thing, right now I am getting:
Same things happens for the 32..
Okay so from what I can understand here you should have the proper specs to be able to run it, so I am not at all aware of why it isn't running. :/
The error is very general and not super helpful, unfortunately, and it should run on Windows 10 just fine (runs on mine, anyway).
Do you by any chance have an antivirus or other security program running?
Hello im a big fan of your game love it, one Question is there anything extra you can do with the cat and/or the reaper guy on the altar (i can feed the cat/ and the reaper guy moves "but i dont know what triggers him to") Plz Reply
Haha hi! Lil' Guy doesn't usually feel like doing much but he does enjoy fish- that's about it. As for the statue, it's pretty weird. We're not even sure what it does! Just seems to like moving around sometimes.
Hi! i kind of fell in love with this game, and am planning on cross stitching some of the characters! I don't care much to keep the finished cross stitch for myself, but I'd love to send it to you guys! is there any way I could do that? it'll be quite awhile before theyre finished (your pixel art is quite intricate!) but they are nevertheless in the works.
Oh my gosh that's so wonderful! If you have a twitter you can DM me through there, either @ghodan_ or @braindeergames.
This is all too exciting ohmygosh
this is a really neat game i love the general feel of it and had a lot of fun playing hope you guys work on something similar or even expand this in the future
really unique game, I saw markiplier playing and I really hope you continue working with this game, put some adds to make some profit, or expand and sell it on steam for 5 dollars or something, if it was bigger I would definitively pay 5 dollars
Thank you so much for the kind words! We don't have anything to announce right now, but we certainly have noticed the attention Woodsy has gotten and are talking about continuing work on it. Means so much to hear you all enjoy it. :)
I saw Markiplier play this game. I only watched the first five minutes then cut the video off because I wanted to experience the game for myself. I downloaded it but unfortunately it's lagging a bit for me to properly play. Do you have any suggestions how to cut down on the lag? Maybe adjusting some options or something? Please reply as soon as you can, I would love to see more of this game! :)
Edit: When I say adjusting options, I mean that sometimes it's been suggested to change certain files to optimize it for someone's PC. By chance is that something I can do to change it for my PC?
Hey there! Sorry it hasn't been running smoothly for you.
So, Woodsy was made for a game jam, meaning we only had a weekend to make it as a kind of fun challenge for our skills, and to that effect we tend to forgo things that would be important for a full game release like an options menu (or really any menu at all) in favor of finishing the core of the game. So no, right now there's nothing you can do to change the graphical quality and make it run smoother, but there may be a way I can prepare a more optimized build for you to be able to enjoy it. I can't promise it any time soon, but I'll see what I can do. :)
Thanks so much for the reply! :) It's no problem at all, if and when you get around to it, I would be so stoked to play it. I actually managed to play it a bit earlier by just ignoring the lag lol take your time if you get to it but if not then it quite all right. Props to making such an awesome game that really hits the mark for what I like. :)
I saw this game when Markiplier played it in his channel and I was hooked! I just had to play it myself and was an amazing game, very fun and interesting. I liked the spooky theme and the upbeat interactions! Would you be going back to this game and expanding it? I would love to play a longer version of it and I would be happy to help with funding as well.
Ahhh what kind words! Right now we don't have any concrete plans to expand this game, but we have definitely noted the popularity and are thinking on it. Thank you so much for reaching out!
Really cool game, it's nice how it has jump scares but is upbeat and happy
I combined this play through with two other horror games, Hope you don't mind :D
Really awesome concept for a game! Loved the art style and the characters :) It was a great mesh of the two genres!
Such a clever horror game! Great job! :D
funny, cute, and creepy! This game was just made for me and I love it!
This is a fun game to play! With the dart setting in the forest and the spooky sounds in the background, you think that it would be a scary game. It did scare me when they appear out of nowhere while making a loud sound. Actually, it’s pretty cool to talk to many different monsters and help them with their requests! Thanks for making this game!
Gave the game a shot over on my channel, ArthurPlays:
as always, I am very interested in games such as this and as always I am willing to contribute monetarily, especially to small indie-developers, but.... as always the simple parameter of "Invert Mouse" has not been implemented and as such there is no way for me to enjoy this game, either....
Sorry to hear we let you down! Under strict time limits for jams like this we tend to lose sight of the bigger usability features, in favor of more polish to the narrative, flow, or maybe just one more new feature that we want to sneak in. And since we all have day jobs, it's hard to find time to go back and add those after the event, and that's if we think to even do so in the first place.
Anyway, since you've asked, I went ahead and added that feature this afternoon. In the latest build you can go ahead and press Y on your keyboard while playing to invert your Y-axis look, on mouse or controller. Hope you enjoy playing!
thank you very much, I do appreciate you taking your time to implement that feature; you would be surprised how many people find it 'too much of a hassle', thus limiting their audience, based on their own personal preference of control-scheme - something which hasn't occurred until recently, which is a crying shame, since (to my knowledge) there's a lot of us old gamers out there who do prefer inverted (due to growing up with early flight-sims, etc.)
once again, I appreciate you taking the extra time, going the extra mile
Super rad pixel art! Quickly caught on to the "do this to get this to do this etc." design of the game. It was executed pretty well for a short game jam! I never found the fish-person though, were they hidden off somewhere? Compiled a short video of my time with the game. Looking forward to seeing what you guys do next!
Hi! Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words and the video! Froggy is hidden in the lake, actually. Some people run into him, some don't. :)
I loved this game! It was so cute and the jump scares are perfectly placed to actually startle me. I also got more freaked out by the teleporting statue that most of the designs, but every character looked like they had their own story. Do you have any plans to build the game further?
Love the video, thank you so much for the praise! :)
Right now we're all a bit too busy to continue this project, but seeing all the attention its gotten has not gone unnoticed. So maybe? I definitely feel it would be a project worth revisiting.
This game is just so wacky in a lovely way! I liked how each of the monsters turned out to be pretty nice and peaceful, but the little scare jumps still got me. :> The pixel art is beautiful and it all has such a wonderfully creepy atmosphere. The puzzle with the 'thousand-eyed mummy reindeer' (?) was great as well! Thank you for this cute horror game, which I happily recommended along with two other Ludum Dare 41 entries in one of our compilation articles. :) A bit of the gameplay is also featured in the related video. <3 Good luck with the ratings!
Love the pixel art!
Hopefully you make a bigger game at some point. I'll be watching for it!
Can you make a mac version of the game?
Hi there, I recently played through Woodsy and quite enjoyed it. I was a bit skeptical at first, I was wondering how you could combine a walkabout style like Animal Crossing with horror but I'm happy to say that it works really well here. Each character has their own unique feel to them, along with a spooky design. I've always been a fan of the pixel art style when it comes to games, and this one is no exception.
There are definitely some tense moments in the game, mostly from having a monster jump out at you, but then immediately start having a conversation with you. It's very strange, but it's even stranger that it works surprisingly well.
This is definitely one of the more interesting games I've played, mostly that the experience isn't quite like anything else so it's a bit tricky to explain, but I like it a lot.
Hope you don't mind but I made a short let's play video of your game for my channel.
I loved your playthrough! Brilliant stuff! Thank you so much for the praise as well. :)
any plans on doing a mac release?
This game was seriously fantastic. Like the title says, it really is comedy horror done right which is great because it is often done wrong!
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the play-through and the kind words! :)
It's always nice to meet your neighbours... Just don't be quick to judge them.
Sorry I got the name wrong.
This looks fascinating. Too bad it's a winx64 application and my old 32bit laptop can't handle. Will just instead watch let's plays of it :)
Oh geez! Sorry I've been so busy this week I haven't gotten around to making more comprehensive builds.
Let me get on that. :)
Just added a 32 bit version! Let me know if that works. :)
Loved it the pixelated style and the characters was such a nice touch great job
The concept is so strange, but alot of fun. Being scared by a monster and then immediately having a conversation with it is quite unnerving. The art is great and the ambiance is very ominous. I didn't quite get the story, but it was still a solid game.
Thank you so much for playing! I think you discovered the most out of all the let's players so far. :) A lot of your reactions were so genuine and funny!
This game was actually really well done! I've been super addicted to the pixelated art style in video games for the past few months and that's what originally made me want to pick this one up! The sounds and ambiance were fantastic and I love the fact that there was a happy-go-lucky feel in the back of this game as well. It definitely pulled off a scary, yet happy vibe in my opinion, much like A Nightmare Before Christmas. Not like the movie, itself. More like the feel of it. The only negative things I have to say about this game are that it starts off in 720p, which is fine. I can switch it to windowed mode and record it no problem. The only issue is: it switches back once the game ends. Other than that, it's great! Thanks so much for making this!
Thank you so much for the playthrough and the kind words! It warms our hearts to hear. :)
(I'll have to look into the resolution issue.)
Thank you! It wouldn't have been a big deal if I didn't record everything with Elgato. When screen resolution changes mid-recording, everything goes out of sync. Easy to fix in post-processing though, so no biggie!
Much potential in this style - if maybe made serious :p Was an interesting game in itself.
Thank you so much for giving it a play man!
In response to the seriousness, the theme for this month's Ludum Dare was to mash together "two incompatible genres", so our group went for a mix of horror and an Animal Crossing-esque slice of life. Two genres we felt are at the complete opposite ends of the spectrum.
I'll admit this now, you are actually on to something with Woodsy. I'd like to see how you take this game and evolve it from here.
